Crafting the Future

of Fusion

Our Wonderful Partners

What do we do?

We are building the world's first student-led fusion energy device, designed, built, and operated entirely by students. Fusion energy is the ultimate solution to clean, sustainable power, and it's closer than you think.

THE TOKAMAK

SOUTH

Tokamak part

The fusion device. Using carefully tuned magnetic fields, SOUTH (Student Operated University Tokamak) confines superheated plasma, replicating the conditions of the Sun. Bridging disciplines across advanced physics and engineering, our interdisciplinary team is tackling one of the greatest challenges in sustainable energy: achieving the stable and sustained environment for plasma confinement.

Vacuum Vessel

Tokamak part

Constructed of high calibre steel, mechanically polished, chemically cleaned, and plasma treated, the vacuum vessel contains and maintains the extreme yet pristine conditions needed for a tokamak plasma. With every dimension carefully optimised to ensure peak plasma performance, the vacuum vessel is truly the heart of the tokamak.

Toroidal Field Coil

Tokamak part

SOUTH's toroidal field coils carry intense kiloampere scale currents that generate magnetic fields capable of squeezing the superheated plasma into a toroidal or donut shape. Taking a Princeton D shape, these coils optimise magnetic field stability, providing precision critical to plasma control.

ABOUT US

AtomCraft is the world's first undergraduate-led project dedicated to designing, building, and operating a tokamak—a cutting-edge fusion device that uses electromagnetic fields to confine superheated plasma and replicate the conditions of the Sun. Bridging disciplines across advanced physics and engineering, our multidisciplinary team is tackling one of the greatest challenges in sustainable energy: achieving stable and sustained environment for plasma confinement. By pushing the boundaries of fusion research, AtomCraft is training the next generation of innovators to tackle the final frontier of sustainable energy.

The Future

Fusion is no longer just a scientific dream. It is becoming an engineering reality. The global fusion industry is rapidly evolving, with projections estimating a market value of nearly US$1 trillion by 2040.

This project supports research and development efforts for several fusion start-ups and helps pave the way toward a decarbonised energy future. We are not just imagining the future. We are building it, piece by piece.
